Dear Hildy,

It is long past Philcon, but it is still on your website as if it hadn't happened yet. It was at Philcon that you said my latest column would appear soon, but it's been two months since then. I sympathize with how busy you must be!

Happy New Year!

Dear Marvin,

I have read your Nth Dimension version of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street by George Dibdin Pitt, and being so intrigued by the genre and the play, I decided to base my International Baccalaureate Theatre High Level Research Investigation paper on this play.

My research question is "how would an actor prepare for the role of Sweeney Todd with respect to the theatre tradition of Victorian Melodrama in the play Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street by George Dibdin Pitt?" and I would be absolutely delighted if you could please share your wisdom in this area. The book contained notes on how to stage the play, and since you have directed the play in Penn state, I thought that you would have first-hand experience on how an actor would prepare and perform the role of Sweeney Todd.

Is there any way that I can contact you for this matter?

Thank you!

Sincerely, Suzy Kim

Hildy, hi,

It was wonderful meeting you after the Small Press panel at BaltiCon this past Sunday evening. I enjoyed the panel immensely. Joshua did a wonderful job moderating the Small Press panel and raising very pertinent questions and soliciting opinions from a diverse set of panelists.

I'm only sorry I did not have more time to speak with you about Crazy 8 Press, the publishing venture involving Peter, Aaron, Bob, Howie, Michael Jan, and Glenn. Conventions are always hectic as you know.

I always enjoy the opportunity to discuss changes in the publishing industry and observe the reaction of well established authors to those changes and how they adapt. It's an honor to have exchanges with these veterans regarding small press, POD, eBook markets, audio books and podcasting, etc. I'm by no means an expert, but continue to learn and love every minute of it!

Again, thank you for taking the time to talk to me and I hope to see you at BaltiCon 46!

A slight correction is in order for my latest column, "Confessions of a Reiki Master." In speaking of the word's definition, it is only the second syllable, "-ki", that is roughly equivalent to the Chinese "chi" and Indian "prana," all locutions for what George Lucas calls "the force."
