ATTENTION: We are now closed for poetry submissions until further notice.
We remain closed for fiction submissions until further notice.
We are looking for science fiction, fantasy, horror, steampunk, magical realism — basically anything with a speculative element, and we really like creative hybrids of these. Stories should be in standard electronic manuscript format. Please note that while we accept up to a maximum of 10K words, we much prefer stories between 5,00-7,500. Gratuitous sex and gore will not win you any brownie points, so only include if they are integral to the plot. Don’t send children’s stories; we’re not for the young’ins. No simultaneous or multiple submissions and no reprints without querying first.
All submissions are to be sent electronically as a Word or .rtf attachment. If there is some reason that you cannot send us a story electronically, please query at the same address and explain the situation, so a snail mail address can be provided. NOTE: Do NOT snail mail to the Somerset address — that’s for invoicing and other business correspondence ONLY. Submissions to that address will be returned unopened or discarded.
Payment of a penny-per-word is made upon publication. We buy first print and electronic rights. After a work is published, rights immediately revert to the author.
We will do our best to respond to all submissions within 3-4 weeks. If you don’t hear from us after 4 weeks, please feel free to send a query.
Poetry is now CLOSED to new submissions. We will announce when we will reopen at a later date. Please send your submissions either embedded in your email, or as an attached Word or .rtf document. Please note that poems should be no longer than a single, standard 8.5 by 11 inch page, and must be of a speculative nature — either science fiction, fantasy, horror, or any combination thereof will do. No simultaneous submissions or reprints; multiple submissions okay within reason (don’t send more than three poems at a time). Payment made upon publication and is a flat $5.00 per poem. Submissions accepted ELECTRONICALLY ONLY. Link will be posted when open for submissions.
Queries regarding cover art, interior illustrations, and comic-formatted stories are being considered year-round. All artwork in S&T is assigned by our art editor. To be considered for an assignment, you may e-mail samples (or a website link) to firstname.lastname@example.org. Alternately, send samples of your work to Editor-in-chief Hildy Silverman (non-returnable photocopies). Payment is $10 for interior illustrations, $25 for cover upon publication.
We do not require you to look at our magazine before submitting material, but we very strongly suggest that you do, to avoid wasting your time — and ours.
