We’re hosting author Brandon Ellis on the blog. Read what he has to say about what inspired him to become an author and about the contest he’s running for readers!
About thirty years ago, my parents sat me down and read me a book. It wasn’t my first-ever book, but while my parents read, my eyes widened in amazement and my lips formed a smile. Why? Because I was in the book. Yes, you read that right. I was a character in the book, though as an alligator, but I still loved the fact that the alligator’s name was Brandon Ellis, and Brandon Ellis was a detective uncovering a very important mystery.
For some reason I’ve kept that memory close to my heart. The book was a Christmas present that my parents had purchased for me through a publishing company that specialized in children’s picture books. My parents managed to get the publisher to print my name in one of the books, placing me as the key character who was unraveling a crime. It probably cost them a pretty penny.
This got me thinking, but more so on a grand scale. What if I placed a reader as a character in my next novel? I asked my fellow authors, my fans, and friends, and they all thought this was a great idea.
So, I’ve started a contest. On December 30, 2016, I’m going to randomly pick one of my readers to be a character in my next novel. The reader will help create his/her personality in the book, their special ability(ies), and if he or she is benevolent or malevolent. In order to enter this contest, I’m asking for readers to download one of my fan favorite books for free (Star Guild Episode Zero) and subscribe to my newsletter. This will enter you into my contest. You can do that with one click here, and like I said, you’ll have a chance to win your name in my next book, plus you get a thrilling book at no cost.
Let me tell you what you’re getting into, and I think you’ll love it, or at least find it rather interesting.
I’m a science fiction writer with a popular series, The Star Guild Saga. I’ve published three books in that series and am currently working on the fourth. It’s an historical science fiction that, of course, takes place in the future, but in those books, I base the plot on true historical facts and myths from a past culture — the Sumerians; a significant culture discovered in modern day Iraq and thought to be the first culture to develop writing. The culture was more or less unearthed in 1849 by British archaeologist Austin Henry Layard when he and his associates dug up over 20,000 clay tablets etched with symbols, pictures, and writings.
After the tablets were translated, scholars were in awe as to what was written. The tablets told stories that are by far too science fiction-y to have been written by a culture dating back 6,000 to 8,000 years. They wrote of “skyships”, missiles with nuclear-like reactions, accurate sky charts — such as the asteroid belt between Jupiter and Mars — and most importantly, of an advanced alien race named the Anunnaki that resides on a planet called Nibiru, which is a rogue world that transverses our solar system in a long, elliptical pattern, taking 3,600 years to round our sun.
Yes, this was all written in the Sumerian Tablets. I’m not making this stuff up.
Eventually, the Anunnaki found their way to Earth and mined our planet for gold. They were here for hundreds of thousands of years. Then, out of the blue, they left, taking with them everything they had, except the human race.
In my Star Guild Saga, I create a what if scenario regarding the Sumerian Tablets.
What if these Anunnaki Beings actually took some of our race and dispersed them across the galaxy, not only to study us, but to use us for their own good? In time, these humans would forget who the Anunnaki were, even though the Anunnaki are still in the background manipulating politics, business, and the monetary system.
If such a scenario could take place, what would happen if the humans began to put two and two together and started to uncover their past, including where they came from (Earth), and why they were taken in the first place? And, then…what if they find out about the race that actually took them, and that the race is actually still working diligently behind the scenes?
Thus, my Star Guild Saga begins.
